Are You Going to Heaven When You Die

Have you or anyone else ever answered this question for yourself?First we have to determine which God for which Heaven:

1. the one Supreme Being, the creator and ruler of the universe. 2. the Supreme Being considered with reference to a particular attribute: the God of Islam. 3. (lowercase ) one of several deities, esp. a male deity, presiding over some portion of worldly affairs. 4. Christian Science. the Supreme Being, understood as Life, Truth, Love, Mind, Soul, Spirit, Principle. 6. (lowercase ) an image of a deity; an idol. 7. (lowercase ) any deified person or object. 8. (lowercase ) to regard or treat as a god; deify; idolize. -interjection 10. (used to express disappointment, disbelief, weariness, frustration, annoyance, or the like): God, do we have to listen to this nonsense?

In this article I’m referring to number one; “the one Supreme Being, the Creator and Ruler of the universe.” The One Who is part of the Trinity; God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

The Dictionary.com unabridged describes the noun Heaven as

“the abode of God, the angels, and the spirits of righteousness after death; the place or state of existence of the blessed after the mortal life.”

You might say, “Hey that sounds like a great place to spend eternity (especially when you consider Hell as the alternative) I think I’ll go there when I die.”

That’s great, really, but it’s not quite that simple. You can’t decide you’re going to Heaven because you’ve basically been a good person. Just how “good” are you? And how good do you have to be to end up in Heaven? Well the answer to that is, you have to be perfect. God is perfect and so are those already in Heaven. See, if you think you can go to Heaven because you’re an all around popular good person, that wouldn’t work. You just can’t get there from here on your own. You have to either be perfect yourself or “put on” Christ’s righteousness. How I know this is, the Bible (every true Christian’s standard) says

“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God…” (Romans 3:23)

I think by now you’ve determined that you’re not perfect and neither am I, nor anyone else for that matter… except… Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is God and He can forgive all your sins (past, present and future). So what you do is, admit to God your sin and ask His forgiveness, claim Christ’s death on the cross (and if you don’t know about that it’s described in the first four “gospels” or books of the New Testament in the Bible) as your payment for your sin, and turn and follow Him. You can really get to know Him by reading the Bible. He just doesn’t love you, He is Love, He wants a relationship with you, not just blind obedience. He’s also merciful, just, comforting, trustworthy, protective, patient, He’s your refuge in the storm. He’s all that and more. If you do the above, then you won’t end up in the other place.

After that the rest of your life the Lord will be sanctifying you. The Dictionary.com says that means; to make holy; set apart as sacred; consecrate. To purify or free from sin. In other words He’ll be working with you in your circumstances to make you more like Him. Don’t worry, that work won’t be completed this side of Heaven. You’ll be a work in progress until the day you die.

And then, this is important, have faith that He will get you into Heaven because He’s the only One Who can. The Bible says

“”I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

” (John 14:6) And that’s it.
